The Story of an Unsung Hero is still Unheard.!!!
My GrandMother INSPIRATION FOR ALL – The IRON Lady!
My grandmother #RukmaniDeviSharma is an IRON LADY in true sense. She is fondly addressed as GRAM KAKI (village elder) 87 years old from a remote village ‘Birmi’ in Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan, has been actively involved in spreading literacy among young women in the village.
As the Mahila Panch of the Gram Samiti, she has been responsible for encouraging girls to enrol in schools. In addition to girls education, she has also been a part of Indian government’s initiative “Prod Shiksha” of educating women above 40 years.
Her life journey is quite an inspiration.
Even though she has studied till the 8th grade, she has set a worthy example by ensuring that her own six daughters have completed their post-graduation. We lost our grandfather Late Mr. Ramlal Sharma nearly 25 years ago, but her literacy work is nothing short of a passion.
She has sowed the seeds of literacy and women empowerment by teaching them basic tailoring skills in turn helping them in becoming financially independent. Her dream is a Tailoring School in the village so every woman can earn a living. After all, education and empowerment walk hand in hand.
At the age of 86, she continues to be fiery and passionate about everything she does, she is a true HERO, someone I look up to. M
Her undaunted spirit and zest to make the society a better place for women with less resources at her disposal, is an inspiration. There is a lot to learn from her. Her life inspires me to believe in oneself and that no DREAM is impossible to achieve if one has a will and dedication to make that dream come true.
Despite all the hardships, she always has a smile on her face and her optimistic approach to life is the quality I wish to have in me. 🙂
