In some families it is an everyday norm or belief that a girl can achieve anything ONLY if its during the day or as per their “acceptable” hours. Like it is not ok or seen down upon girls trying to work the nightshift or late nights. This is the stereotype that I have not accepted then and now. I always believed that if the family supports then day or night shouldn’t matter.
Here I am after more than a decade still looking back in time where a girl cannot do a night shift without having to explain a million times on why she wants to work, why she wants to not just be educated but be out there to learn.
It is not easy for people to accept and it is my story of having to convince my dad that there is same work that any person would do in different hours and its no different.
It was really my mom who said “yeh toh dad ki “Adat” hai” ( not letting women/girl go out alone or the least work at odd hours). Had it not been for my mom, I would have been in the same boat of many other girls, getting married early in life.
The first quarter was difficult but when I started getting the company awards it kinda relaxed him. So this is to me (‘myself’) for taking the first step of getting out there to learn and grow.
